(EDIT: OUT NOW! LINKS BELOW)
Chay Snowdon is releasing two entirely new tracks this coming Friday entitled 'Mon Cheri' and 'Sha la la'. Both tracks extremely different from the other but still featuring Snowdon's silky vocals it's easy to see why their fan base is growing so rapidly.
The band hailing from Bristol features Liam Roberts on lead guitar, George Roach on bass, Ed Fox on drums and Chay Snowdon providing vocals and rhythm guitar. They've already begun making a name for themselves on the Indie scene by doing two UK tours, selling out their show in Bristol, performing at Camden Rocks 'All Day-er', played at Looe Music Festival, Promoted by, ‘This Feeling, ‘Either Way Events’, and supported; ‘The Sherlocks, ‘JUDAS’, ‘VANT’, ‘The Snuts’, ‘Glass Caves’, ‘Oddity Road’. Not only this but they received a glowing review from their BBC Introducing performance.
'Mon Cheri' is a classic hard rock indie anthem. Snowdon described this song as “listen up to the lyrics of ‘Mon Cheri’ and be transported to wherever the hell you want.”. A sharp open to the song with heavy drums keep the song in time whilst keeping with a very catchy tune. I have a feeling this will end up stuck in my head for days. I don't really listen to a lot of Indie style music I'll be honest. But this is definitely one of those tracks I can imagine a lot of people getting up to dance along to, myself included - though not many people would want to see that. It's entertaining, fun and light-hearted.
'Sha la la' gives off a very different mood from 'Mon Cheri'. It's slower and the band describe the lyrics as “living by the ethos of let’s live for tonight and deal with everything else tomorrow”. I can see this kind of song being used a lot at weddings and that kind of thing, not so much as a first dance - although it would probably fit - but more as a towards the end of the evening song that everyone can enjoy. Out of the two songs, this one is my favourite though. The lyrics are sweet with a touch of humour to them and the beat makes you want to sway along in a bubble of sappiness. The solo before the build in the song makes me so incredibly happy because it leads up to one of the most perfect key changes I think I've ever heard.
Overall these two songs are going to go down very, very well with not only Chay Snowdon's audience but they'll do well in capturing a new audience as well. I'm hoping that these two singles won't be the only ones of this year for too long.
